ASME A112.6.3

The ASME Standard establishes design requirements for floor, area, adjustable floor, and trench drains that are used inside of, or outside and immediately adjacent to, building structures that are typically nonresidential. It includes definitions, nomenclature, outlet types and connections, grate-free area, top loading classifications, materials and finishes, and variations in product design.

Common types are:

  • Area drain: a manufactured receptor designed to receive and convey run-off water or other liquid from the areas immediately adjacent to the building structure to the drainage system.
  • Floor drain: a manufactured receptor designed to receive and convey run-off water or other liquid from building floors to the drainage system.
  • Shower drain: a manufactured receptor designed to receive and convey the water in a built-up or prefabricated shower.
  • Trench drain: a long narrow manufactured receptor designed to receive and convey run-off water or other liquids to the drainage system, from a broad flat area inside or immediately adjacent to the building structure.
